Edit (12/15/09): Apparently, “lol” — to a slightly more mature generation — is short for “lots of love,” not “laugh out loud.”  I still think it’s funny.

   My mom thought for the longest time lol meant lots of love. No wonder why I got lol in weird contexts like “I miss u. LOL.” I was like how is it funny that you miss me? haha
